India's exhibition industry is going through one of its strongest growth phases. New world-class venues, government support, better connectivity and fast-growing sectors are making exhibitions one of the most important B2B marketing channels in the country.
At Approach Media, we've been building exhibition stalls since 2002. Here's our view of what's driving the growth and how brands can use it.
Exhibitions are becoming the growth engine of India's MICE sector
MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions. Within this sector, exhibitions are increasingly seen as the main growth driver, according to the Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations (AFECA).
Trade shows remain one of the few places where buyers, sellers, distributors and decision-makers meet in person, see products and close deals.
1. Strong government support
The government has recognised the economic value of exhibitions. The Ministry of Tourism has set up a dedicated MICE division and a National MICE Board to promote India as a global destination for meetings and exhibitions.
Large, modern venues such as Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, Yashobhoomi (IICC) in Dwarka and major centres in Mumbai, Bengaluru and Gandhinagar are raising the standard of Indian shows.
2. Growth beyond the metros
Exhibitions are no longer limited to Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru. Better infrastructure, including 157 operational airports and expanded highways, is helping shows grow in secondary and tier-2 cities.
For brands, this means:
- New regional markets to reach
- Lower participation costs in some cities
- The need for stall partners who can deliver across India
3. Sector-specific shows are booming
Industry-focused exhibitions are growing fastest. Key sectors include:
- Renewable energy and solar
- Pharmaceuticals and healthcare
- Technology and startups
- Agri-tech and food processing
- Textiles and apparel
- Manufacturing, engineering and machinery
- Defence and aerospace
Gujarat, with its strength in pharma, chemicals, textiles, engineering and ceramics, is an important base for many of these exhibitors.
4. India is attractive to international exhibitors
India offers:
- Competitive venue and service costs
- Fast e-visas, often processed in 24 to 48 hours
- A huge domestic market
- Rich cultural experiences for delegates
More international brands are now exhibiting in India, raising the expectations for stall quality and design.
5. Technology and sustainability are becoming standard
India's young, digitally comfortable audience expects modern experiences. AI for lead generation and matchmaking, AR/VR demos and digital ROI tracking are becoming common. At the same time, leading venues are adopting paperless check-ins, eco-certification and greener practices.
What this growth means for exhibitors
More shows and more competition mean it's harder to stand out. Brands that do well in 2026 will:
- Plan a year-round exhibition calendar, not one-off participations
- Invest in stall design that converts, not just stalls that look good
- Use reusable or hybrid stalls to control costs across multiple shows
- Track leads and ROI for every event
- Work with experienced partners who can deliver in any city
Common challenges in Indian exhibitions
- Tight timelines between allotment and show date
- Different venue rules on height, power and fire safety
- On-site labour and logistics coordination
- Quality control during fast build-ups
An experienced stall partner handles these so your team can focus on sales.
